Survivors Teaching Students®

Survivors Teaching Students (STS) is a program of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance. As a partner member of the Alliance, Lydia’s Legacy supports and coordinates this program in the greater Charlotte community.

The goal of Survivors Teaching Students is educate future physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and physician assistants about the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of ovarian cancer, so that they are better equipped to diagnose the disease in its earliest, most treatable stages.  We also share the emotional impact of the disease with an emphasis on patient-physician communication so that students better understand the overall impact of the cancer experience on women and their loved ones. This program brings ovarian cancer survivors into the classroom, where they present their unique stories along with facts about the disease. Students are able to interact with and learn from actual patients.

Community Education Initiatives

Lydia’s Legacy provides a variety of opportunities to educate the community about gynecologic cancers. Past programs have included presentations to local community women’s groups, professional organizations, 3rd party fundraising events and media spots. Our goal is to provide information on risk factors, symptoms, diagnosis, prevention and treatment, along with the latest research on gynecologic cancers. Our presentations also include a survivor’s perspective to raise awareness about the impact of the disease on women and their loved ones.

If you are interested in scheduling an educational event with your group, please contact us.

If you are a survivor and interested in sharing your story, contact us.

Patient Support Kits

Lydia’s Legacy provides educational support kits to women undergoing treatment for gynecologic cancers. Our kits include information about specific types of gyn cancers including symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment. We also provide resources for emotional, financial and legal support, along with travel toiletries that may be needed when treatment must take place far from home.

Our goal is to empower women and their loved ones with pertinent information and remind them that they are never alone!

If you are interested in receiving a support kit, click here.

If you are interested in sponsoring or donating items for our support kits, click here.  A $25 donation will allow us to purchase items needed to help a woman with gynecologic cancer through her treatment and recovery.  Simply click on the orange “donate” button and specify “Support Kit” in the PURPOSE field.  On behalf of gynecologic cancer patients, we thank you!
